DAODEJING Chapter 80/30:
Start with a small country—a small group of people. Make it so that gadgets are not needed,
And, though armor and weapons exist,
There is no display of them.
Let people find value in place and, thereby, shun travel. Though carriages and boats exist, no one rides in them. Guide people back to a time when the knotted cord was used.
Let people delight in their food and appreciate their clothing. Let them be content at home and enjoy their everyday customs.
“The neighboring town is so near,
We can hear their cocks crowing and their dogs barking, But we grow old and die without bothering to make a visit.”
