Habonim Dror Camp Moshava

For 80 years, Habonim Dror Camp Moshava in northern Maryland has provided our youth with a kibbutz-like environment dedicated to inclusion and social justice. Campers are challenged to develop a strong and personal connection to Israel and the Jewish people, gain leadership skills and form friendships that last a lifetime.

In order for Mosh to continue to provide this type of transformative experience for future generations of Jewish youth, we have embarked on a multi-year effort to improve and sustain the camp's physical plant by renovating old facilities and building new ones. The next building block in that effort is a new infirmary, referred to in Hebrew as the Mirpa’ah (or, in common kibbutz slang, the "Marp")

The Vision for the Marp:

In the new Marp, our medical staff can examine, treat, and house sick or injured campers and staff in conditions conducive to quick recovery, as well as provide simple, comfortable housing for our medical staff, who are vital members of the camp community. In addition to building the new Marp, we will renovate the current Marp to be used for staff housing.

Marp Plan and Design Team:

The 2,000-square-foot building will be rustic in appearance to retain the look and charm of Mosh and utilize natural and energy-efficient materials where possible.

Costs and Fundraising Goals:

We anticipate a total project cost of approximately $380,000. Modest renovations of the existing Marp for use as staff housing will add $10,000 to the budget.

The Harold Grinspoon Foundation has generously agreed to provide us with $36,000 in matching funds through its Chai Match 3 program. In order to receive that match, we must raise $252,000 in pledges of $1,800 or more by November 18, 2015. Pledges can be paid over several calendar (tax) years, with all payments due by March 18, 2018.
