Carly Tatum

Consultant in Austin, Texas

I was an early talker. A BIG talker. As a toddler, it was impressive; as a school kid, it meant time-out; now as an adult, it's my expertise.

My name is Carly Tatum. No, unfortunately there’s no relation to Channing Tatum, although I’m told all the Tatums in the US are somehow related. I manage global corporate responsibility communications for Dell in beautiful Austin, Texas. I consider myself a corporate activist addressing key social and environment issues through the resources and influence of a global technology business.

I advocate for responsible business practices, build 360 degree communications campaigns, and manage a crisis here and there. But most importantly I help our business be better stewards of our planet and communities.

Ten years ago, when I began my career fresh out of USC (Fight On!), my current job did not exist. Activism was left to the NGOs. Now corporate responsibility can be a key differentiator, transforming business, driving innovation and efficiency.

And communication is also evolving as our world becomes more connected. We have to influence, inspire, entertain and inform in soundbites, disappearing photos, hashtags and even emojis. We have to be relevant, real-time and responsive. We have to be bite-sized storytellers, artists, and filmmakers.

When I'm not having fun at work, I'm likely in full-on MOM mode trying to keep up with a baby, a toddler, and two 70 lb canines. They are amazing, adorable, and all consuming.

In my limited free time, you can find me discovering my inner-Yogi, taste-testing a new cheese, or hosting a spontaneous dance party (likely to the tunes of Pointer Sisters or Wham) in my living room.

But most likely i'm just trying to catch some Zzzz when i can. :)
