Cathy M. Rosenthal began her career as a journalist and photographer for a major daily newspaper. She even worked as a copywriter for an advertising agency, once writing the fun stuff on the back of cereal boxes. Several of her radio ads even won local ADDY® Awards.

Her love of animals though, led her to a career in animal welfare that has spanned more than 25 years. She has worked as a Director of Public Relations for local and national animal welfare agencies, planned national press conferences, lobbied Congress regarding animal welfare issues, and worked in disaster relief for animals.

In recent years, Cathy has served as a director of humane education, developing and teaching humane summer camp programs as well as director of marketing, writing grants and coordinating fundraising and other special events for local agencies.

Today, as a national communications, media and marketing expert for animal welfare groups, Cathy uses her expertise to help animal groups tell their stories to supporters and the media. She consults with local and national groups on their media and marketing plans; writes press releases, grants, web content, media plans, newsletters and annual reports; and coordinates conferences for animal agencies.

Cathy is a sought-after speaker who has been giving workshops at state, regional and national animal welfare conferences on media, education, and outreach for more than 20 years. She also gives workshops on compassion fatigue and customer service issues for animal welfare professionals at local animal welfare agencies throughout the U.S.

Cathy also writes the syndicated pet advice column, My Pet World, and writes a pet advice column for the San Antonio Express-News. She is the author of several children’s books on pets and continues to teach humane education programs to young people at summer camps and school programs throughout the year. She is a Certified Humane Education Specialist.

Cathy shares her Austin, Texas, home with her husband, and six-year-old dog Buster.
