Charles Canver

Cardiothoracic surgeon Charles Canver M.D. is the Chief Medical Officer and Vice President for Medical Affairs for Provena United Samaritans Medical Center. He directs development, leads staff recruiting, and supports the operations of medical personnel. Dr. Charles Canver also acts as the Chief Quality Officer for the Danville, Illinois, hospital and upwards of 100 affiliated physicians. In addition, he serves on a number of committees and task forces run by Presence Health, the hospital's corporate owner.

Previously, Charles Canver, MD was the founding CEO of Near East University Hospital, located on Near East University's campus, in Nicosia, Cyprus. In his two years with the 250-bed facility, he designed its outpatient clinics, operating rooms, and intensive-care units. Dr. Canver ensured that the hospital remained on sound financial footing and also spearheaded efforts to seek approval from the Joint Commission International, which accredits health care organizations.

Dr. Canver has spent much of his career in cardiac medicine. In the late 1990s, he led the nation's second largest heart transplant team while with the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. Later, he served as the Director of the Heart Institute at Albany Medical Center, in New York, which he established as a Center of Excellence. While there, Dr. Canver launched its heart transplant program and performed in multiple roles, including as Head of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Director of the Thoracic Surgery Residency Program. More recently, he was the Director of The King Faisal Heart Institute, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Charles Canver holds an MD from Erciyes University, in Kayseri, Turkey, and an MBA from George Washington University, in Washington, DC.
