I wrote The Perfect Fruit: Good Breeding, Bad Seeds and the Hunt for the Elusive Pluot (Bloomsbury) and am at work on a second book of nonfiction called The Pistachio Wars. I co-founded a food and cooking website called Cookthink and a creative writing program for students called the Desert Island Supply Co. I have written for many publications, including Slate, Gourmet, Gastronomica and the Oxford American. Now I work as the senior lecturer in emerging media in the department of journalism at the University of Alabama.
