Charles "Chip" Matthews

Charles Matthews better known, as Chip, is currently serving as the Director of Student Life at SUNY Geneseo. It is his intention to help others learn, develop, and find a greater sense of purpose through the use of humor, creativity, and enthusiasm. He is an energetic Student Affairs professional, who encourages active engagement and increased self-awareness. Throughout his career, Chip has conducted numerous workshops on leadership, bystander intervention, team building, ethical leadership, and conflict resolution. He teaches courses in leadership theory, interpersonal skills, career and educational planning, and group dynamics. He has also worked in Residence Life at Roberts Wesleyan College and SUNY Geneseo and has worked with Upward Bound, a federally funded college prep program. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Roberts Wesleyan College located Rochester, NY and he earned his Masters in Public Administration at SUNY Brockport located Brockport, NY. In 2009, Chip was awarded the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service, in 2010, the Association of College Unions International Region 2 Professional Service Award, and in 2012, he was awarded the SUNY Geneseo President's Award for Outstanding Professional Service.
