Conrad Humphreys

My journey started just a stone's throw away from Exmouth seafront where the pull of the ocean cast its spell and has held me in its net of wonder ever since. Inspired by the late Sir Peter Blake, I left school at 17 to race around the globe in the Whitbread Round the World Race (now Volvo Ocean Race). The Ukrainian team I joined straight after the collapse of the former Soviet Union taught me some harsh lessons, but also the lengths that people will go to if they really believe in something.

I got my first chance to lead a team at 26, skippering the winning yacht, "LG Flatron" in the BT Global Challenge 2000-1. We dominated the race from start to finish, winning four out of seven legs and it was to be my first real test of leadership and creating the right culture for sucess.

The BT Global Challenge was a springboard for the Vendee Globe in 2004-5. Having secured the backing of telecomunications giant Motorola, I went on to become only the fifth British sailor in history to complete the legendary non-stop, singlehanded and un-assisted round the world race.

Combining my passions, I founded Sport Environment in 2001 with a vision for connecting brands and people for social good. I'm driven by working with organisations that enjoy getting the very best out of their people for the good of society and the environment.

Drop me a line if I can be of any help in the future
