Costas Bissas

Athens

Costas Bissas is a design consultant based in Greece.

Having watched MacGyver at an early age, he developed an interest for mechanical engineering, leading to a Diploma from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics in the University of Patras, Greece. There he specialised in composite materials and design, carrying out projects in the Applied Mechanics Laboratory.

He continued his education in the MA Industrial Design course at Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design, gaining a wider understanding of the interface between the tangible and intangible worlds. He worked for design studios in London as well as on individual projects for brands like Nokia, Tetley Tea, Axe/ Lynx and Costa Coffee.

Recently he relocated to Athens from the Scottish Highlands where he was Research Associate at Distance Lab, developing experiences, prototypes and products that explored the use of new media technology for the benefit of rural and remote areas. He designed and manufactured 12 "Talking Boxes", a set of informal teleconference devices, for the FutureEverything festival in 2010, as well as the online experience LocalSoundScapes.net for De Balie, Center for Culture and Politics in Amsterdam. In all his efforts while living for 2.5 years next to the Loch Ness, he never managed to locate the monster.
