Head of School in Brooklyn, New York
Crissy Cáceres is an accomplished educational leader with 30 years of dedicated experience in independent education. Since 2019, she has served as Head of School at Brooklyn Friends School, a historic Quaker institution founded in 1867 that serves approximately 700 students from age two through 12th grade in Downtown Brooklyn.
As the first head of color and the first woman to lead the school in 33 years, Cáceres has implemented significant initiatives that have strengthened the school's foundation while preparing it for the future. Her leadership has resulted in the launch of the school's BFS Strategic Vision, expansion of tuition assistance to early childhood families, and the historic purchase of a new building to unify the BFS campus. Under her guidance, the school centers its work on three pillars: Diversity, Equity, and Belonging; Global Social Impact; and Wholeness & Well-Being. These pillars align with her moral compass, which informs the cultivation and expansion of values and humanity informed experiences for all in her care.
Cáceres holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Public Policy from Wellesley College and a Master of Education in Educational Policy and Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. Her comprehensive professional journey includes leadership roles at Georgetown Day School as Assistant Head of School and at Abington Friends School as Head of Lower School and an initial ten years of teaching and leadership roles at Episcopal Academy.
A seasoned thought leader, Cáceres serves as a Trustee for the National Association of Independent Schools and on several other boards, including Friends Council on Education, the New York State Association of Independent Schools, and Leadership+Design, a design-thinking firm. She regularly presents at national conferences on a vast range of topics including Optimal Governance Practices and the Design of Strategic Frameworks.
Described as a visionary and joyful leader fueled by compassion and curiosity, Cáceres brings her extensive expertise in Quaker education, change and risk management, strategic design, and cultivation of positive social impact to create educational environments where, as her current school’s mission upholds - students develop as compassionate, intellectually curious, and confident global citizens who let their lives speak in the spirit of leadership and service.
