I have been thankful to have a blessed life. I am thankful that God has given me opportunities in my career especially when I attended college at Mid American Nazarene University. In 1984, I obtained my medical degree at Kansas University Medical Center. In July 1984 we moved to Tucson, Arizona where I started my general surgery career at University of Arizona Tucson Surgical Program. In 1986, I became the first research associate in the surgery program to research the Jarvik artificial heart in the cardiovascular research lab. I completed my general surgery training at the University of Arizona Surgery Program in 1990. After receiving my cardiovascular and thoracic training from Loma Linda University in 1993 we moved to Louisiana to help enhance the cardiothoracic and endovascular program at St. Francis Cabrini Medical Center and Rapides Medical Center. I was in practice in Louisiana from 1993 to 1996. We moved to Kansas City and started another successful private practice with Kanza Multispecialty Group and then with Kansas Heart and Lung Surgery. In 2003 I was asked by Health Midwest to restart the Cardiovascular and Thoracic Program at Baptist Lutheran Medical Center. In 2006 HCA decided to close Baptist Lutheran Medical Center and merge the heart program to Research Medical Center. As a result of the successful Baptist Lutheran Medical Center cardiovascular program, Overland Park Regional Medical Center HCA in 2005 requested for me to restart the cardiovascular and thoracic surgical program. Today Overland Park cardiovascular program ranks as one of the premier cardiac centers in the area. I have been blessed to have provided clinical advise and/or care to movie stars and for a former United States President.

I have been a surrogate speaker for Rick Perry at the Iowa caucus and Newt Gingrich at the Kansas caucus in Kansas City, Kansas during their 2012 campaigns for president. I have been a Johnson County Republican delegate since 2010, a Kansas Republican Party State Delegate and an alternate delegate to the 2012 Republican National Convention. I am the 3rd Congressional District at-large delegate to the Kansas Republican Party.
