Cynara Geissler
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
I'm the marketing manager at Arsenal Pulp Press (a leading Canadian independent book publisher in Vancouver, BC) and the co-host of Fatties on Ice, an independent feminist podcast about pop culture and media.
I have worked in the creative and literary arts community for over a decade as a publicist, writer, editor, event coordinator, typesetter, proofreader, social media consultant, and non-profit administrator. I speak regularly to the students of the Simon Fraser University Master of Publishing program about the publishing industry and book marketing.
I came of age on the Internet--I started a livejournal back when you needed an invite! I've co-moderated large online communities, contributed to popular blogs, and now do my own personal blogging (mostly on the topic of size acceptance) on tumblr.
I wrote a poetry chapbook called Small, Stunted Ways (Hur Publishing, 2011). My poems and essays have appeared in magazines such as Event, Geez Magazine, Shameless, and subTerrain. Several of my essays on fat acceptance are published in big, spine-y books: Lessons from the Fat-o-sphere (by Kate Harding & Marianne Kirby) and the rhetoric textbook Reader's Choice.
