Daniel Gumarang

Assistant Principal in Los Angeles, California

I am a graduate of UCLA, and Columbia University, Teachers College with degrees in Political Science, and Computing and Education. As an educator of with more than 20 years of experience in the public and private school systems, I have held privileged positions as an elementary school teacher, special education transition teacher, and district/school site administrator in Los Angeles, West Covina and more recently, Chino, California.

In 2005, I joined the LAUSD's Office of School Redesign and engaged schools in the process of transforming cultures into smaller personalized learning environments featuring project-based learning in a technology-rich environment. More recently as a school administrator, I continue the work as an instructional practitioner working directly and closely with those who have the greatest impact on student learning- teachers. Together, we explore and find professional growth through meaningful reflection, purposeful research, and best practices.

I am also an Apple Teacher and a Google Trainer. In these contexts, I continue to share my vision and passion in education through of instructional technologies by creating new rigorous experiences that support 21st century teaching and learning- changing cultures system-wide, (if not) through conversations one person at a time.

(Oh yeah, I am an amateur photographer too. Photo taken of footpath through a mangrove forest in the island of Aklan, Philippines.)
