Danielle Miedema

Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Who am I? I am a God fearing woman, wife, on my way to being a mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, teacher, student, and servant.

How would I describe myself? I am organized, cautious, I love to plan, have a schedule, and make lists, I need goals, and I like structure. However, those traits are balanced with the fact that I am creative, a dreamer and thinker, I love trying new things and new foods, I have eclectic tastes in fashion and music, and I am an aggressive soccer player.

My Story, Short and Sweet: I was raised in the country; in a little place called St. Anns, Ontario (Niagara Region). I am the oldest of five children. I went to the Christian church, elementary school and secondary school that are all in a row in Smithville. Yes, my childhood was a pretty sheltered one, and I am thankful for that. Later I ventured out to the city of Hamilton for my undergrad at Redeemer University College. This is where I achieved my Bachelor of Arts in Honours Psychology and Art. I also met my amazing husband at Redeemer, and we have now been happily married for 5 years. After Redeemer I began working for Salvation Army and their organization that runs day programs for adults with special needs. Soon after I also began working for a women’s shelter in Downtown Hamilton. The social services area was an amazing career and life experience that taught me more about the world and people. I then decided to pursue further education, at Redeemer again, to become a teacher. I now am a member of the OCT, I have an AQ in Special Education Part 1, and I have many different jobs at the elementary school John Knox Christian School.

My Mission Statement: Change starts in my mind. Change in my thoughts will change my attitude, heart, feelings, and behaviours. Therefore, my personal mission is to change the way I think. My mission is to dwell on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. I need to constantly question where my thoughts are coming from. The renewal of my mind will help me discern God’s will, and become more like Christ.

My Goal for Teaching: My short term goal is to achieve a full time contract. My long term goal is to become a Guidance Counselor in a High School. My continuous goal is to educate myself (as of lately that would be in differentiated instruction
