David McVicar
Miami Beach, FL
Social Media Innovator, Photographer, and sometimes Ruby on Rails Applications Designer. I began writing BASIC on a teletype in a school hallway because the noise disturbed the class. Then learned software engineering in San Antonio from great MIT professors who were tired of the snow and cold weather. Lucky to start my career at two great Texas companies -- Datapoint and Compaq. There I had a front-row seat for the birth of office email and the Personal Computer revolution. Traveled the world with BancTec in the 90's, and began the processes that made your paper checks disappear from your mailbox and viewable online. I interviewed at AOL when they had only 9 employees but didn't join them until 10 years later. At AOL, Innovated and launched a few great websites like circavie.com and pixnay.com and helped bring Ruby on Rails in through the side door. Learned a little too much about launching a web startup company when I gave life to Mobikaze in 2010 (but haven't given up on social, local mobile apps!) Lately you'll find me in Miami writing great code with the very cool and uber-smart people at LivingSocial.
