Dean Toriumi

Dr. Dean Toriumi of Chicago is not only one of America’s most honored facial plastic surgeons, he is also very well published. Dr. Toriumi, who specializes in rhinoplasty, has appeared dozens of times in the medical press, attesting to the research experience he combines with his two decades of practice and teaching.

Dr. Dean Toriumi has co-authored two textbooks, Open Structure Rhinoplasty (1990), and Rhinoplasty Dissection Manual (1999), and co-edited Tissue Glues in Cosmetic Surgery (2004). His byline has appeared on numerous book chapters and journal articles. Additionally, Dr. Toriumi has presented dozens of papers and speeches and participated in many panel discussions in the field of facial plastic surgery.

Dr. Dean Toriumi has received considerable media attention for his results. W Magazine named him a Surgery Super Star in 2000 and Chicago Magazine selected him as one of the city’s top doctors in 2004. His peers chose him as one of the Best Doctors in America for 2007-2008 and 2009-2011. Dr. Toriumi appeared on the Castle Connolly list of Top Doctors for 2008-2011.

Dr. Dean Toriumi is Professor and Director of Resident Research at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He received his undergraduate degree at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, in Biology and Chemistry, before moving on to Rush Medical College in Chicago where he earned his M.D. He was a resident in general surgery at Metropolitan Group Hospitals in Chicago. Dr. Dean Toriumi was trained in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago; he also did two fellowships in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at both Tulane University Hospital and the University of Washington in Seattle.

Dr. Dean Toriumi never forgets the element of care in his practice. Rhinoplasty is a very difficult and personal procedure—no two noses are alike. His goal for all facial surgery is to preserve a natural appearance. He takes a conservative tack, using well-established procedures. Dr. Dean Toriumi’s current work also includes eyelid-lifts and face-lifts, and his research focus is head and neck reconstructive procedures.
