HOWDY!

I’m a photographer, blogger and bartender based in Nashville, Tennessee.

I earned my degree in Journalism from Texas A&M University in 2003. After working in a newsroom for over a year, I discovered the rigors of news life didn’t quite fit me, and I took my writing interests to the blogosphere. I currently blog at Mattox-Live, and I previously wrote at Musician’s Widow.

Over time, photography became passion, and you can find my portfolio at Denise Mattox Photography. I enjoy all sorts of photography – from events to portraits to stock photography.

An unexpected joy that I discovered upon moving to Nashville is working as a bartender. I spent five years bartending in the World Famous Printer’s Alley, and today you can find me in the taproom at Yazoo Brewery.

I am a breast cancer survivor. I was diagnosed in August 2022 with triple positive breast cancer. I completed all treatment in October 2023, after having reached Pathological Complete Response to chemo.

I am the daughter of small business owners, and I continue to be part of the family business. The knowledge I've gained about entrepreneurship, bookkeeping and -- more specifically -- income taxes is invaluable. I plan to use those lessons in my own future business ventures.

I am President of the local Middle Tennessee Texas A&M Club as well as the Texas A&M representative to the Nashville ACC-SEC-B1G Leadership Council.
