Through her artwork and illustration, practicing neurosurgeon Dr. Denise Crute offers the insights of her own artistic expressions in paint, ink, pastel, and pencil. Working beside other women also accomplished in both neurosurgery and art, Dr. Denise Crute recently published her work in the collaborative book, Heart of a Lion, Hands of a Woman. Dr. Denise Crute grew up creating art. Some of her earliest memories involve drawing with her father.Dr. Denise Crute entered her first juried art show at age 12. Throughout high school and college, Dr. Denise Crute continued painting and drawing. She began teaching painting lessons while a junior in high school, and during Medical School she relied on her artwork to finance her living expenses. Her work has been featured in several juried art shows and art symposiums.

Dedicated to using her abilities to support patients and students, Dr. Denise Crute has served as Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery and Neurology at the Mount Sinai School of Mediciane and Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford.

Through The Foundation for International Education in Neurosurgery (FEINS) and Central American Medical Outreach (CAMO), Dr. Denise Crute has supported international medical aid since 2006. Dr. Denise Crute helped establish the first neurosurgery program in Western Honduras at Santa Rosa de Copan in 2009.
