Denita Powell Malvern

Denita Powell Malvern oversees Community Partnerships at Workforce Solutions for the North Central Texas - North Central Texas Council of Governments. Denita is charged with identifying, developing, and managing strategic partnerships across a 14-county region. She works to foster relationships between organizations, agencies, and stakeholders.
From 2012-2024 she served as the Director of Community Engagement at KERA. Her work included a dual role in supporting both community and staff engagement in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion. She developed KERA’s community engagement initiatives, created and maintained KERA’s community partnerships, and identified target audiences for station-wide initiatives.
Denita has over twenty-five years of experience working in the public sector including museums, educational institutions, and public media. She began her career working with exhibit content and public programming around race and racial healing as part of the start-up team for the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is a past Chair of the National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) Community Engagement PLC (Peer Learning Community) and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She has a B.A. in history from Wittenberg University and an M.Ed. in Education Administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati.
Her interests include education, philanthropy, public policy, social issues, community engagement, history, the arts, and culture.
Denita is also a published author and poet.
