Dennis Franchione

A member of the American Football Coaches Association, Dennis Franchione holds diverse professional experience as a head football coach for several university teams. During the course of his 26-season career, he has achieved 1 divisional crown and 8 conference championships by effectively motivating players. Early in his career, he guided teams to five consecutive conference championships for the Pittsburg State University Gorillas in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. During that time, he was twice named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Coach of the Year. Dennis Franchione’s more recent experience includes serving as Head Coach for the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs in the Western Athletic Conference, The University of Alabama Crimson Tide in the Southeastern Conference, and the Texas A&M University Aggies in the Big 12 Conference. In January 2011, Dennis Franchione signed a five-year contract to serve as Head Coach of the football team at Texas State University–San Marcos.

Native to Girard, Kansas, Dennis Franchione attended Pittsburg State University in his home state. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in 1973. Honoring Dennis Franchione for his professional accomplishments, Pittsburg State University granted him an Alumni Meritorious Achievement Award. Beyond his professional engagements as a collegiate football coach, Dennis Franchione maintains active involvement with Coach Fran Charities, a nonprofit he founded with his wife.
