Teaching the Cloud and Shifting Education

Derrick Waddell picture

Derrick Waddell is the Instructional Technology Support Specialist for Cullman County Schools.  Having been a teacher and school technology coordinator for the last seven years, he has seen firsthand the benefits of technology in the classroom.

In 2004, Derrick received a BS in Secondary Education Language Arts from the University of North Alabama.  Since that time he has taught English at all high school grade levels, drama, technical theatre, television production, and computer applications classes and has facilitated distance learning classes.  In 2010, Derrick was honored with the Chiquita Marbury Technology Innovation Award at the Alabama Educational Technology Conference.  He is currently pursuing an MS in Educational Leadership at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and works supporting instructional technology at the district level.

Derrick is a stong proponent of the use of cloud-based tools in education, seeing that in today's Internet rich environment and with dwindling technology budgets in many schools, free cloud tools offer easy ways for students, teachers, parents, and staff to communicate, create, and collaborate.  You can find out more about the cloud at his blog, Teach The Cloud.

Derrick is also a Google Apps for Education Certified Trainer and provides small and large group training sessions for teachers, students, or administrators who are looking to implement the free Google Apps for Education.
