In 1998 I started a production company called DocuCinema. It really was a game-changer for me, fielding crews, running a staff, working with networks. I've always been a story guy and media maker, but creating television like that really felt like the big time.
In 2010 I started an education and communications agency called Red Cup. In 2013 I started Digital Fundraising School, an online academy that helps entrepreneurs, creative media makers, activists and tech visionaries become better crowdfunders. In 2014 I started a consulting and education program for startups called Mo'popular.
I've written a book for startups called 'Be More Popular: Culture-Building for Startups.' Just out on Amazon, my latest book, Chronicle of a Startup Town: Los Angeles.'
I live in Santa Monica with Tabby Biddle, a women's leadership development expert. My daughter Carolyn lives in Los Angeles and works in the hotel business. Someday soon you'll be able to stay at her boutique hotel. My son Dean is a designer of lighting, furniture and things in San Francisco. Tabby and I have a son named Bodhi. He is a baby, but he has his own blog at Over 50 Under 5.
