San Francisco

I'm a technology reporter for The Wall Street Journal focused on pre-IPO consumer Internet companies, like Uber and Airbnb, that are changing much of how we do things in life.

Prior to The WSJ, I was a reporter with Bloomberg & Businessweek where I covered Yahoo, Twitter and Facebook in addition to writing profiles of Mark Zuckerberg, Marissa Mayer, and Groupon’s Andrew Mason. In 2009, I coined the term “app economy” in a cover story I co-wrote on apps. I began my career in New York as an intern at Rolling Stone.

I'm originally from Dayton, Ohio, and a graduate of Vanderbilt University. Outside of work, I'm a conservatory-trained percussionist who has played in settings as varied as a college rock cover band to the Greenwich Village Orchestra in New York. Before one performance of a Philip Glass timpani concerto, I made the mistake of denying entry to one very important audience member: Philip Glass.
