Dr. Julissa Ossorio-Bermúdez

Julissa Ossorio-Bermúdez has a PhD on Anthropological Studies in Ethnomusicology of Queen’s University, Belfast, UK. Her doctoral thesis was focused on analyzing the relationship of music in the process of constructing and negotiating identities; particularly, gender and religious identity. She also pursued a Master’s degree on Music Education at New York University (NYU) and a bachelor’s degree in music education at University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras, her main instrument being voice. She is currently pursuing a second Master’s degree in Divinity at the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico and is particularly interested in the link between music and religion. She is also an adjunct professor at Interamerican University, Metropolitan Campus, at their Popular Music Department.

She has a vast choral experience including de University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras Choir, Concert Choir, San Juan Phillarmonic Choir, NYU Singers, and presently, Coralia. Throughout her choral career, Dr. Ossorio-Bermúdez has participated in several editions of the Casals Festival of Puerto Rico and in several operas including: Othello (Verdi), Faust (Gounod), Cavalleria Rusticana (Mascagni), Pagliacci (Leoncavallo) and La Traviata (Verdi), all performances with world-renowned conductors. She has also participated in Gala concerts of world-renowned singers such as Salvatore Licitra, Marcelo Álvarez, Roberto Alagna, Ben Hepner, and Angela Gheorghiu. Likewise, she was a member of the Centennial Choir of the University of Puerto Rico, allowing her to sing at the Carnegie Hall in New York City.
