Dr. Michael Elterman

Dr. Michael Elterman, a distinguished clinical and forensic psychologist based in British Columbia, has run his own private practice since 1982. During his career, Dr. Michael Elterman headed psychology departments in several hospitals in Vancouver, taught clinical psychology for several years at Simon Fraser University, and performed numerous assessments for the Canadian and British Columbia court systems. Dr. Michael Elterman took an appointment as a consulting psychologist to the Ministry of Attorney General of British Columbia, which lasted from 1984 to 2004.

Responsibilities included providing consultations and evaluations for cases addressing issues of custody and access, as well as parental capacity. Dr. Elterman also holds qualifications to give evidence relating to child abuse, criminal sexual assault, and child development throughout all levels of the British Columbia court system. Especially dedicated to his forensic work, Dr. Michael Elterman has completed numerous evaluations and prepared over 2,500 court reports. Dr. Michael Elterman attended the University of Cape Town, where he earned his Bachelor of Science with honors, before moving to Canada to complete his studies. After earning his Master of Psychology from the University of Ottawa, Dr. Elterman attained his Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from Queen’s University.

A fellowship in behavioral medicine brought Dr. Michael Elterman to the University of Utah School of Medicine, where he completed training in the Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Michael Elterman’s professional affiliations include the College of Psychologists of British Columbia, where he holds a chair position on the board; the Canadian Psychological Association; and the American Psychological Association. Dr. Michael Elterman also keeps involved in Parenting Coordination, a child-focused dispute resolution process for families undergoing separation or divorce, and his name appears on the B.C. Parenting Coordinators Roster.
