Dr. Roberta Kalafut

The accomplished physician Dr. Roberta Kalafut served as the first female president of the Texas Medical Board. During her six-year tenure, Dr. Roberta Kalafut guided the Texas Medical Board through a prominent period of evolution and augmentation. Upon achieving those goals, Dr. Roberta Kalafut resigned from her presidency in order to focus on her own practice and family.

After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Youngstown State University, Dr. Roberta Kalafut attended the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Roberta Kalafut earned her Doctor of Osteopathy in 1984, at which time she moved to Baltimore, Maryland, to participate in Sinai Hospital and Johns Hopkins Hospital's Inter-institutional Residency Program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. During Dr. Roberta Kalafut's three years at Sinai and Johns Hopkins, she was appointed Chief Resident of the Inter-institutional Program in recognition of her exemplary dedication and ability. In addition to coordinating the call schedule between Sinai Hospital and Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Roberta Kalafut also organized the residents' educational curriculum.

Together with her husband, Dr. Edward Brandecker, Dr. Roberta Kalafut founded SpineAbilene over a decade ago in Abilene, Texas, where they both currently reside. Dr. Roberta Kalafut's SpineAbilene approaches back and neck healthcare from a number of medical perspectives and distinguishes itself by providing diagnostic services and housing multiple specialists, including spine physiatrists, spine therapists, and a consulting spine surgeon, in one facility.
