Ed Roberts

A native southerner and graduate of the College of Design at North Carolina State University, Ed Roberts is a writer, speaker and award-winning creative director who is a leading expert on constructing high-performing in-house teams comprised of strategic and creative superheroes.

He is currently the HOW Design Live In-house Management program planning partner and served on the HOW Interactive Design Conference advisory board. Ed has created hundreds of infographics for a major science and technology magazine with several of his designs selected and featured in two international volumes of Diagram Graphics: The Best in Graphs, Charts, Maps and Technical Illustration.

Ed enjoys exploring design, creativity and business strategy and writes extensively about these topics as they relate to in-house management for HOW magazine, HOW’s In-house Designer Blog and The Creative Group Blog. He has interviewed several of the industry’s forward-thinking leaders—ranging from Pentagram Partner Michael Bierut, Typographer Gail Anderson, Garden and Gun magazine Art Director Marshall Mckinney, Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv Partner Sagi Haviv as well as the in-house team at Bloomberg Businessweek including Creative Director Richard Turley.

Ed recently judged the 2015 HOW magazine In-house Design Awards and the United Kingdom’s 2014 In-house Fresh Awards. He serves on the board of IHAF and is ex-officio president and diversity chair of the Triangle Advertising Federation a chapter of the American Advertising Federation. He recently accepted the Mosaic Award from the American Advertising Federation for best multi-ethnic student program for an internship program developed for diverse high school students.
