Ehsan H. Balagamwala, M.D.

I am currently an Attending Physician in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic. Academically, I have interests in clinical outcomes and translational research as well as undergraduate and graduate medical education. Currently, I am involved in multiple retrospective as well as prospective research studies. I established the spine stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) research database at Cleveland Clinic and have published extensively in the field. I am also the co-PI of an investigator-initiated prospective randomized trial evaluating two spine SBRT fractionation schemes. My other clinical and research interests include gastrointestinal tumors (pancreas, colorectal, liver, esophageal and gastric) as well as brain, spine, lung and gentiurinary (prostate, bladder, testicular) tumors. I am also currently leading two multi-institutional collaborative projects in spine SBRT as well as intraoperative radiotherapy for abdominopelvic recurrent tumors.

Clinically, I have extensive experience in a wide variety of radiotherapy modalities including stereotactic body radiationtherapy (SBRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS), 3D conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT), intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), low dose rate prostate brachytherapy, intracavitary and interstitial high dose rate brachytherapy (gynecologic, esophagus, endobronchial), intraoperative radiotherapy (breast, abdomen, pelvis) as well as radioisotopes (Xofigo).

I also established a unique medical student-taught CPR training course at the Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital for family members of pediatric patients and have created an online tool to help medical students learn to perform a coherent, efficient, and patient-centric physical exam (see link below).

In my free time, I enjoy digital photography, traveling and spending time with my lovely wife and child.
