Spreading curiosity and a sense of wonder through music, Hannah Smith, better known as Eitch (pronounced "H"), is anything but ordinary.
Blending together intricate vocals and insightful lyrics to complement the free form of her instrumentals, Eitch began producing and recording music using computer software early on as a teen. Enthralled by myriad elements found in alternative, electronic, and pop styles, Eitch gave rise to the name "Altronipop" to describe her sound.
In 2010 Eitch released her debut album 'Everything, Nothing ', a collection of work she first began writing and arranging in 2006. The album's theme was largely inspired by her innate fascination with the Cosmos and love for existential questions regarding life's purpose, discovering personal faith, and coming to terms with the daunting reality of what it takes to reach one's potential.
In February 2012, acclaimed Icelandic singer and artist, Björk, selected Eitch as the worldwide winner of her lyric competition for the song 'Cosmogony' during the singer's most recent Biophilia tour. Eitch's original verse about String Theory and the origin of the Universe would be performed live by Björk herself in Queens, New York on February 18th.
This past May, Eitch released her latest 4-song EP 'Health.' It would mark three years since her debut LP, allowing for 'Health ' to exist as a testement to Eitch's growth as a producer and vocalist, while pushing her "Altronipop" sound towards imaginative new realms.
Live, Eitch gives a theatrically charged performance driven by interpretive hip-hop-esque movement, surrendering to the present moment and the meaning that her words take on each day. No show is the same—each audience has different needs—yet the intention to provide people with an enchanting template to self reflect remains consistent and exponentially strong. Like an intense craving, Eitch works to birth love out of indifference, find the beauty in the neglected, and realize the connection in everything. As she explores her Self in front of the audience, so does the audience provide the tools for honest exploration. It's a collaboration, even if only in the subconscious mind.
'Health ' was made digitally available for free for a limited time on SoundCloud, and 'Everything, Nothing ' hardcopies can be found throughout the Amoeba Music Stores in California
