Physically disabled people have always had been at the hard end of the road to employment. Laws to ensure employment to disabled

There are laws constituted for the purpose of guaranteeing employment to the disabled. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits any kind of discrimination against the physically handicapped and guarantees equal opportunities to them in employment, transportation, state cum local government services, telecommunications and public accommodation. The Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA) prohibits discrimination against the qualified disabled or other types of veteransand requires affirmative action for them. Section 188 of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 was established to prohibit discrimination against qualified, but disabled individuals in any program or activity that is financially assisted by WIA Title I.

Disability Statistics of the Country

In the US the number of adults with at least one basic actions difficulty or complex action limitation is estimated to be 74.6 million, as per the Health, US, 2012;its 32.9% of the total population. Out of this the number of adults with hearing difficulty is 37.6 million (16%), with vision trouble number at 20.6 million (8.8%) and those with any physical functioning difficulty number at 35.2 million (15%).
