EnerSys Corporation was founded by Russel W. Treat in 1994 and became a full time operating company in October 1998. During its history the company have received numerous recognitions for growth and technical innovation becoming recognized as leaders in the fields of oil and gas automation, SCADA, pipeline operations and custody transfer measurement.

During the period from inception to 2007, EnerSys operated as a control systems integration company providing automation, SCADA and measurement solutions to oil and gas operations.

In 2007, EnerSys realized that change was coming to pipeline control rooms in the form of a new federal regulatory requirement from the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) requiring pipeline operators to put formal for control room management (CRM) programs in place. The essential elements of this requirement are control room procedures, alarm management, adequate information (High Performance HMI displays to improve situational awareness), fatigue mitigation, incident reporting and controller training. EnerSys’ research into the proposed PHMSA CRM rule lead us to form relationships with experts outside the pipeline industry to learn from their process industry best practices and adapt them to the unique requirements of pipeline operations.

In 2009, with the Compliance Strategy defined, EnerSys then embarked on a multi-year effort to create and then refine its tools and approach to create an engineered software product to meet PHMSA rules using the Best Practices available. The outcome of this effort is the EnerSys Pipeline Operations Excellence Management System (POEMS™), a suite of software products that incorporate pipeline operations best practices to meet and exceed the PHMSA Rules for pipeline control room operations while also streamlining the process of keeping the records required for the eventual compliance audit.

EnerSys reached the pinnacle of its transition to a software company in the period of January 2012 through December 2013.

Today, POEMS™ consists of the following EnerSys proprietary licensed software components:

CRMgr™ - Automated logbook, shift hand-over and PHMSA CRM recordkeeping tool

ALMgr™ - Pipeline Alarm Management tool meeting the requirements of API RP 1167

Intelligent Operator - Engineered library of SCADA HMI components that provide display Console™ (IOC) elements, including animation, controller functionality and system behaviors to meet the requirem
