Eyva Cash

San Francisco, CA

Hello! My name is Eyva (like eee-vuh). I am a 35 year old female with end-stage Cystic fibrosis (Cf). I grew up in the Midwest and transplanted to the Bay Area a few years ago. I love the ocean and I can't think of a city I would rather be in than San Francisco.

I was born with Cf, it is a genetic, auto-recessive, cellular condition that mainly affects the lungs and the digestive system. For the longest time, it was considered a childhood disease due to the fact that nobody lived past their teens. We are now living into our 40s and 50s. :)

I used to do all sorts of fun things, like rock climbing, urban exploration, "ghost hunting", photography, riding motorcycles, singing and dancing, but that all changed when my health started to deteriorate.

Now, I spend most of my days at home, caring for myself, my boyfriend Mark and our Maltipoo, Luna. I lead a pretty sedentary lifestyle now, doing jigsaw puzzles, art, paper crafts, making greeting cards, watching movies, playing games, and sometimes I manage to cook a thing or two.

Cf has pretty much taken over my life. My lung function is down to about 20% at best. I have been worked up for transplant twice (once for double lung/liver, the other for just double lung), and I was most recently rejected, for the time being, by UCSF. My goal is still to get transplanted eventually, apparently now is not the right time.

I'm happy that my life has lead me to where I am today. I know that not many people can say that honestly. And honestly, isn't happy what we all strive to be?
