Federica Cherubini

Paris, France.

An Italian in London, Parisian at heart, I’m a news junkie working in journalism.
Completely in love with the world of news and everything that is storytelling - especially if it’s visual and involves new ways of making journalism come alive - I currently work for the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) on several projects linked to the future of journalism, digital storytelling and community building - in real-life as well as on social media.
Talking to journalists and editors and visiting newsrooms around the world will always be one of my most favourite things.

Although a journalist and researcher, both by training and at heart, I am multi-skilled and my work with global events and outreach has turned me into a meticulous project manager. Ok, meticulous might mean I’m over-organised and obsessed with colour coding. But hey, everyone has her own limits, right?

For the past four years most of my attention within WAN-IFRA has been dedicated to the World Editors Forum, the network that supports and informs editors and senior news executives going through digitally led change. At the same time I’ve participated heartily in press freedom campaigns and advocated for quality journalism.

I contribute to the EditorsWeblog, the online publication of the World Editors Forum, as well as the annual Trends in Newsroom report, which identifies and defines the latest global editorial developments.

I was one of the three researchers behind the primary research project “Monitoring, moderating and managing online comments: towards best practice”, funded by the Open Society Foundation. For this, I interviewed dozens of online editors and social media managers worldwide in order to identify the different ways that news organisations are approaching online commenting and investigating how citizens engage, as well as the role communities play in the society of information.

At WAN-IFRA I’ve also managed several conferences, developing the concept, creating the programme and inviting and managing international speakers.

I am passionate and optimistic and a bit of a workaholic, and above all am happiest when juggling several tasks. Give me a willing team, an interesting project and an idealistic goal, and I fly.
