Fertile Limited

Serving Chicago’s gardening community with a staff of skilled, trained enthusiasts, Fertile Limited, at 1646 West Diversey Parkway, is the latest incarnation of this urban garden center. Owned and operated by avid gardeners Susan and Russell Brandstetter, Fertile Limited reopened, after a name change from Fertile Delta and Fertile Gardens, in April 2011. A member of Landscape Design Association, Fertile Limited contains 8 city lots totaling 25,000 square feet of retail space for trees, shrubs, and plants from throughout the United States, and containers, gardening products, and accessories. Whether a customer wants to start her own garden from scratch or purchase prepotted containers planted by the two floral designers on staff, Fertile Limited can handle the job. Featured products at Fertile Limited from brands like Border Concepts, Crescent, Drumm, and Packing Pearls come recommended with confidence and personal experience, as the stock orders are placed by the same people who interact with and assist customers.

Fertile Limited also offers on-site landscaping and garden maintenance and, since reopening, has already completed 22 different projects including yard work, urban gardens, and rooftop gardens. Fertile Limited also participates in community events such as charity fundraisers for groups like the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago. Susan and Russell Brandstetter also work with the Women’s Board of Northwestern University, supporting education and research at their alma mater.

Open seven days a week between mid-April and late December, Fertile Limited rotates its stock to reflect the changing seasons in the Chicagoland area; that way, gardening can be done year round. Customers are invited to check out Fertile Limited and consult with the on-site staff to get started with a new garden or improve an existing one.
