For over three decades, Tim Gordon has served in a variety of roles and continues to be a lover of ALL things film. One thing remains clear - his enduring love of film which has kept him on the vanguard of cinematic leadership.

Gordon has turned his passion for film into his life’s work, seeking to educate future generations and alter the perspective of African Americans on screen as well as in the executive suites of Hollywood.

He began his career as a film critic in 1992. Gordon was later inspired to create The Black Reel Awards in 2000 to honor African-Americans in feature, independent, and television films.

Gordon was named President of Washington (D.C.) Area Film Critics (WAFCA) in 2002. The 46-member association examines issues about critics throughout the industry and annually honors the year’s best films and performances.

In 2004, Gordon founded the Foundation for the Advancement of African-Americans in Film (FAAAF). The organization was rebranded as the Foundation for the Augmentation of African-Americans in Film in 2015, with its mission to target, identify, and prepare candidates who will represent the next generation of filmmakers and potential film executives. FAAAF introduced two signature programs, Reel Kids, and the Producer’s Institute to continue the important work for the next generation.

In 2008, he created the movie brand, “FilmGordon” consolidating his film content and social media platforms under one umbrella. Gordon joined the nation’s largest film critics association, the 600-member Critics Choice Association (CCA) in 2013. In 2018, Gordon launched the Lakefront Film Festival. The event moved to Washington, DC, and rebranded as the LightReel Film Fest in 2022.

To serve film festivals and those who run them, Gordon was invited to join the Board of Directors for the Film Festival Alliance (FFA), effective 2024.

Over his distinguished career, Gordon has served as a consultant, panelist, and film festival jury member for several festivals and film series. Gordon has been a film critic for WETA-TV (PBS) since 2005 and also hosts the weekly film show, Keeping It Reel with FilmGordon on 96.3 HD4 on DC Radio. His work has also appeared in USA Today, and Variety Magazine, and has been a guest on NewsOne, BET Tonight, BET’s Screen Scene, Howard University’s Evening Exchange (WHUT-TV), WHUR’s The Daily Drum with Harold Fisher, and Wake Up with WURD with Solomon Jones.
