I'm a Secondary Mathematics teacher for the Calgary Board of Education, teaching at an inquiry-based science school nestled in beside the Bow River. My summer pursuits include creative writing, visual art, recording arts, long walks in open landscapes, and noticing the little kindnesses that people gift one another. I live with a cat named George Mimolette Finch. She’s adorable.

My interests and hobbies include:

• pencils in need of sharpening

• the idea of birdwatching

• cleaning, tidying, baking bread

• compiling lists (apparently)

• birdwatching proper

• ... and when that fails (because, after all these years, I'm surprisingly bad at birdwatching), enjoying watching birdwatchers watch birds

• dancing like no one's watching (customarily with no one watching)

• making field recordings of frogs and birds

• Fourier series

• gunmetal-grey mid-century office-organizers

• unnecessary hyphen-usage (apparently)

• the word "apparently" in brackets (apparently)

• the occasional em dash

• people who tidy up public spaces (thanks, you!)

• whiskers on roses, raindrops on kittens

• warm woollen kettles, bright copper mittens
