Hi, thanks for stopping by, my name is Gareth and I would like to tell you a little story about me.

At a young age I was diagnosed with dyslexia and wondered why I struggled to learn like the other children at school. I found things like reading, writing and spelling extremely difficult, as you can imagine. To try and help me get through school and in my college days I had great support from some amazing people. These are the people I looked up to and have given my the drive to not let a disability hold me back.

Whilst at school I found three areas’s which I was good at Art, Mathematics and Information Technology. I was a quite creative as a child so art was a great place to express my creative side. I loved with numbers so mathematics wasn’t so difficult. Going up in the era where computing started off and finding that computers helped me, so taking information technology classes introduced me to a new way of working.

During my time in education I gained some good valuable skills but its only today I really understand what those skills where and how I have put them into practice. Those skills are listening, learning to adapt myself to new and everyday situations.

As studying was difficult for me I wanted to achieve something and that was my first steps into engineering by gaining my HND Civil Engineering. Getting a job in the industry wasn’t easy but I managed to work as a draughtsman designing and detailing precast concrete staircases.

Currently working for The University of Manchester managing the estates drawing team, which includes looking after the large master drawings library. Arguably my biggest task to date is helping the implement it across new and refurbished capital projects and adopt BIM as business as usual.

The next chapter in my life hasn’t been written yet, but one thing I plan to do best to make my parents, wife and children proud of their son, husband and Dad.
