I work in the areas of high-throughput genomics and transcriptomics, microbiology, molecular and computational biology/bioinformatics, biostatistics, process automation and target discovery. I've been involved with the development of sequencing technologies for thirty years, and am interested in ways of applying new technologies to answer complex questions in infectious disease research, cancer research, immunity, development, animal health, and global health. I manage a small consulting firm, Oak Springs Genomics, which helps biotech and pharma companies with data management and bioinformatics challenges.

I'm also an experienced research diver in the field of underwater archaeology and a scuba instructor. I work in the Great Lakes to document shipwrecks from the 18th-20th centuries. My wife and I also run a successful farm B&B, and raise sheep and chickens!
