Ginny Washburne

Chicago, Illinois

I began my career as a middle school social studies teacher in Atlanta, Georgia. After a few years in the classroom, I left to pursue a job with SMART Technologies. For almost seven years I had the opportunity to travel the country as an Education Consultant where I worked with districts to develop implementation and professional development plans. This led to several opportunities to work internationally with educators in Egypt, London, Canada and Mexico.

After leaving SMART Technologies, I joined Discovery Education as a Director for the Discovery Educator Network (DEN) for the Urban Partnership team. There I spend two years traveling the country to work with educators in large, urban districts. Working strategically with my team, we built a series of programs and resources to help teachers and administrators harness the power of digital media. I also helped these educators grow their PLN by connecting them with our DEN community.
I am passionate about education and have spent the last decade helping educators leverage the power of technology and digital media to meet the needs of today’s learners.

When I’m not working, I enjoy running, yoga, cooking, reading and spending time with my husband and 3 sons.
