Gregory Whelan

An entrepreneurially minded business professional with expertise in international markets, Gregory Whelan is currently an MBA candidate at the McCombs School of Business. Between his graduation from Bates College in 2005 and his matriculation at McCombs, Gregory Whelan gained valuable work experience in both established firms and start-up ventures. Soon after acquiring his Bachelor of Science in Economics, Gregory Whelan became an Analyst with IBM Global Services, a consulting firm for supply chain management and operations. Tasked with analyzing international military parcel mail flow, Gregory Whelan evaluated several years of data and built a computer model that resulted in a resource optimization solution used by U.S. military mail facilities in the Middle East. Gregory Whelan also wrote chapters on change management and staffing for a proposal for a 10-year, $700 million United States Air Force project. Gregory Whelan developed his interest in international markets in college, where he completed his thesis research on corporate governance metrics and returns on the Philippine Stock Exchange. In 2007, the asset management firm Seagate Global Advisors, LLC, gave Gregory Whelan the opportunity to apply his knowledge on behalf of private equity investors. As an Analyst for Seagate's Philippines Special Opportunities Fund, Gregory Whelan developed a financial tool to evaluate and differentiate the quality of both public and private companies based upon key corporate governance indices. Gregory Whelan also organized a trip to the Philippines for prospective investors, which included a private due diligence meeting with Philippine President Macapagal Arroyo. In 2009, Gregory Whelan accepted the challenge of helping a technology start-up find its foothold in the marketplace. He became the Director of Business Development for Amedia Networks, Inc., a wireless video innovator. With a 5-person remote team and a budget of $100,000, Gregory Whelan built a fully integrated website, led 4 national road shows, and developed a worldwide network of strategic partnerships and over 400 industry professionals. He also worked with company engineers to expand the applications of Amedia's proprietary technology to include the military and defense markets.
