Matt Grimes

I am the Course Director for the BA (Hons) Music Business at the Birmingham School of Media and Senior Lecturer in Music Industries and Radio. I am also a researcher at the Birmingham Centre for Media and Cultural Research at Birmingham City University. My reserach interests include punk, ageing, subcultural studies, DiY music cultures, music entrepreneurship, popular music and memeory/nostalgia. I was awarded my Doctorate from Birmingham City University in 2020.

I also teach across a number of programmes in the Birmingham School of Media; specialist areas taught include music industries skills, music promotion and PR, music business, popular music culture, music industry innovation, punk rock studies, popular music and subcultural studies, popular music fandom and radio production/training.

I lead the award for BA (Hons) Music Business degree within the school, including evaluating and developing courses, as well as networking with industry and recruiting and managing visiting lecturers and guest speakers.

I am currently developing and managing internal and external student employability and industry collaborative engagement projects

I am the link tutor for the faculty of Performance Media and English where I manage and develop collaborative provision with franchise colleges and external educational providers.

I am also an external examiner to the BA Music Industries Management at University of Hertfordshire, BA Music Busiiness at University of Gloucester and the MA Music at University of Sheffield

I also advise on music industry SME's and music industry start-ups.
