Networks, because everything connects. Visualization, because pictures convey multiple meanings. Technology, because it extends my reach on the world.

Music came first when I was a teen - I'm no Paganini or Chopin. I loved, I still love, to play in bands (baroque flutes, high scholl brass band, now trying myself with Jazz). Maths came second, but kept me away from my piano long enough so I cannot play much these days. Maths and music share a special relationship. It's about structure and combinatorics, but it's also and mostly about harmony and beauty.

Network Analytics & Visual Analytics is what I do for a living. We are in a situation where citizens may and should empower themselves to collectively act. Technology now allows to sort out complex issues and avoid letting all power and arbitrariness in the hands of a selected few. We are in a position to take the lead over our common future, with eyes wide open and knowledge fueled minds. It's up to us.
