Nefrette Halim

Chicago, IL

Nefrette Halim is an enthusiastic voice for the preservation of historically significant architecture. She has been personally involved in the preservation of homes and neighborhoods in the suburbs of Chicago. Halim is self-employed as a developer and renovator of homes in Chicago as well as in Paris. In Chicago, Nefrette Halim helped save the Prairie-style Skiff house, a residence built in 1910 and designed by the firm of renowned American architect Daniel Burnham, from demolition.

Ms. Halim's most recent project in France was the full renovation of an apartment in Paris' 11th district. The apartment is roughly 90 square meters and features a series of frescoes Halim specially designed with the Parisian painter Filip Mirazovic, who executed the frescoes. The panels were inspired by historic Zuber wallpapers and archeological Pompeian ruins. The room is luxurious, yet functional, and gestures towards the painted "singeries" at the Chateau at Chantilly and other historical painted rooms.

Nefrette Halim was educated in Literature and Writing at Lake Forest College, graduating summa cum laude with an undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts. In 2001, she received a Master of Arts in Humanities from the University of Chicago.
