Hank Groover

A Dominican friar with the Southern Dominican Province, Henry “Hank” Groover has been a committed servant of the Catholic Church for more than 27 years. Hank Groover prepared for his career with a M.Div and a master of arts in theology and Southern literature at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California.

Over the course of his career, he has worked with populations in several universities and correctional institutions in Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and South Carolina. As part of his work with prisoners from the American South, he also assisted with GED classes at men’s and women’s correctional facilities and a maximum security prison in South Carolina.

An avid student of modern Catholic theology, Henry Groover is currently studying the work of Fr. John Markey, OP. Groover’s own approach to ministry combines preaching and storytelling in the tradition of Brennan Manning’s The Ragamuffin Gospel. In addition to volunteering with a number of regional, national, and international charitable organizations, Hank Groover actively supports his community as a member of the National Coalition for the Abolishion of the Death Penalty.
