Hema Sundaram

Hema Sundaram, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist, founded and continues to oversee the Sundaram Dermatology, Cosmetic & Laser Surgery Centers in Rockville, Maryland, and Fairfax, Virginia. With over 15 years of experience operating her own private practice, Dr. Sundaram has become an expert in providing cosmetic surgery and treating all types of conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails.
With a number of advanced degrees, Dr. Hema Sundaram is highly educated and well trained in multiple fields of medicine. In 1985, she graduated with honors from the prestigious University of Cambridge in England, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Genetics. Continuing her education at Cambridge, Dr. Hema Sundaram earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, as well as a Master of Arts, in 1989. She also completed extensive postgraduate training and research before opening her own private practice in 1995.
In addition to holding certification from the American Board of Dermatology, Inc., Dr. Hema Sundaram has medical licenses in Maryland, Virginia, Illinois, and Nevada. Over the course of her career, she has also earned multiple awards and honors. Dr. Sundaram won the James Anderson Prize in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from St. Bartholomew’s Hospital and The Royal London Hospital, as well as the Chicago Dermatological Society Research Award. From 1993 to 1995, she acted as Lieutenant and Lieutenant Commander for the United States Public Health Service. A fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and ISDS (the International Society for Dermatologic Surgery), she also serves as a committee member of the Indian American Medical Association of Illinois. Furthermore, Dr. Hema Sundaram has taught advanced cosmetic surgery and dermatology at conferences all over the world, published numerous book and journal articles, and researched dozens of new medical treatments.
