Heather M Jensen

Berkeley, California

My name is Heather Jensen, and I am a postdoctorol researcher at the Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI). My research focuses on improving biofuel tolerance and production in microbes. I am also working on methods to improve functional membrane protein expression.

My graduate work focused on using synthetic biology to engineer an extracellular electron conduit in live microbes for enabling bidirectional electronic communication with inorganic materials. This work was jointly advised by Dr. Caroline M. Ajo-Franklin and Prof. Jay T. Groves at UC Berkeley.

In my "free time", I bake, knit, and play the ukulele. Check out my blog for some of my favorite recipes.
