Holy Cross Peoria

Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church offers many services to the residents of Peoria, Illinois. Serving church members and non-members alike, Holy Cross Lutheran Preschool & Child Care is regarded as one of the finest child care facilities in the city. In operation since 1990, the preschool and child care center is licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. Children from 6 weeks to 12 years old are welcome at the center, and those aged 2 through 5 also attend preschool classes, complete with a graduation ceremony before moving on to kindergarten. The center is open weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and serves children a complete breakfast and lunch, as well as a nutritious afternoon snack. Field trips take place throughout the year, and Family Fun Nights are a regular occurrence. These evenings open with a prayer, followed by a meal, a family activity, and the reading of a good book to close the day. Family Fun Nights takes place at no extra cost. Strong commitment to the Peoria community is a key element of the congregation at Holy Cross. The services provided at the child care center reflect the attitude and teachings of the church. Providing spiritual guidance to the members of Holy Cross, Pastor Douglas Handrich cares for his congregation through preaching, teaching, and administering the Holy Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. While Holy Cross practices a “Closed Communion,” Pr. Handrich will gladly share the church’s doctrine with those who wish to become active communicants. At Holy Cross in Peoria, teachings are based on the doctrine of the Lutheran Confessions as written in the Book of Concord in 1580.
