Hugh Vanderspek

Hugh Vanderspek is a longtime marine industry executive who joined BAE Systems’ San Francisco ship repair operations as general manager in 2008. He worked with the Port of San Francisco in securing $6 million in funds toward the development and implementation of a next-generation shore power system that cut carbon emissions significantly. Hugh Vanderspek also oversaw upgrades that enabled the facility to accommodate even the largest cruise ships. His efforts led to an overall 60 percent increase in safety performance and a revenue increase of 70 percent.

Since late 2012, Mr. Vanderspek has held responsibilities with BAE Systems’ Southeast Shipyards as vice president and general manger. He manages the full range of yard operations at Mobile, Alabama and Jacksonville, Florida facilities and guides business development activities. Mr. Vanderspek’s position builds on nearly two decades of leadership experience with Southwest Marine in San Diego. As director of execution planning, he managed several departments and spearheaded program and project development. Hugh Vanderspek has been a member of the Mission Bay Yacht Club for more than four decades and served as commodore in 2008. He and his wife also maintain membership in the Fairhope Yacht Club.
