Stephen Schmidt

Writer, Editor, and Filmmaker in Minneapolis, Minnesota

I'm a media professional who has recently moved to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. I've worked in many fields of the media spectrum, but my biggest passion is narrative storytelling.

I moved to Minnesota as a relocating spouse after having lived in Columbia, Mo. where I worked as a writer at the University of Missouri.

Before moving to Missouri, we lived in Northwest Arkansas where as I served as a multimedia specialist/video producer for Arvest Bank Operations, Inc.

Before moving west, I served as an Interactive Web Producer at WABC-TV in New York City.

During my career I've also worked as an editorial intern at Sports Illustrated Kids, a features writer at the Northwest Arkansas Times and a sports writer for the Muskogee (Okla.) Phoenix. I've worked in many fields of the media spectrum, but my biggest passion is narrative storytelling.

I first earned a bachelor's degree in journalism at the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk, Jayhawk!) before going on to earn a master's degree in interactive communications from Quinnipiac University several years later.

While at Quinnipiac, I did a six-part documentary, "I am Steve Schmidt," which explored the challenges of establishing an online identity/brand with a common name in the digital age. It can be viewed through my portfolio site, iamsteveschmidt.com. Other writing samples can be found on iamsteveschmidt.contently.com.

I've lived in 10 states, but I've lived most of my life in St. Louis... I was born in Augusta, Ga., but have yet to pick up the sport of golf... I've seen games in 24 of the 30 Major League Baseball cities.
