Isla McKetta, MFA

Seattle, WA

Living in Chile under Pinochet and in Poland after the Cold War, I saw how oppression and the control of information shape a society. Writing is how I guard against erasure and take control of my own stories.

My fiction and poetry are influenced by writers like Chris Abani who merge the political with the personal and who cross boundaries of form and break the silence of convention.

I read widely and constantly, and through the reviews I write for A Geography of Reading, I look deeply at the craft of writing well.
